Clarification

The Dublin Rams Ice Hockey Club would like to clarify our position, as, of late, there seems to be much confusion regarding the circumstances we find ourselves in.

The club continues to exist, and looks to go from strength to strength in the future. We reserve the right to take our rightful place among the top ranked Irish clubs, once the Irish Ice Hockey Association has addressed, and dealt with, it’s shortcomings, as pointed out to them in face to face meetings, and in a multitude of communications. We are not alone in voicing these opinions, indeed many clubs share our concerns, we however, are prepared to make greater sacrifices, for what we hope, will be the greater good of the sport in Ireland.

This is not a unique situation, and one needs only to consider the history of the original Dublin Flyers, which existed for more than a decade without a rink in the country, or a league in which to compete. There were also notable examples of teams existing in a similar vacuum, in Northern Ireland some years ago.

We find ourselves in a position that is not of our making, or one that we are happy with, but principled opposition is nothing to be ashamed of either, and we ask for the support and understanding of players, teams, and hockey enthusiasts alike, as we try to bring about a fairer and more equitable IIHL. We accept that some players may wish to continue to play hockey at the highest level available to them, and have no intention of standing in their way, however, this will have to be achieved by negotiation and agreement between all parties involved, the Rams, the players, and prospective new clubs.

We intend to involve ourselves in availing of opportunities to participate in youth hockey development in the immediate future, and invite proposals from any interested parties as to how best this may be achieved, and those who might consider joining us in this, and we would also welcome hockey players of all skill levels to contact us through this website with a view to joining us to restore our club to its proud position.

Dublin Rams Cease Operations

Re:   Notice re: 2009/10 IIHL “A” Division Season

This letter is to inform the IIHA that the Dublin Rams Ice Hockey Club is ceasing all operations associated with the IIHA , including the balance of the 2009/10  IIHL “A” Division schedule.

This decision was not taken lightly and is a direct result of the intolerable and unprofessional treatment the IIHA front office and on-ice officials have directed towards the Dublin Rams Ice Hockey Club.

We are a group that loves hockey more than you can imagine, so this final decision comes with much pain to the club. It comes with a sense of loss and incredible dissatisfaction with the IIHA and its lack of moral obligations to the ‘amateur’ clubs in this country. If we as a competitor know of the misgivings of certain officials and clubs then we believe that the President and RIC should at the very least be aware. A blind eye has been turned on the negative forces for too long. We know of the politics of the situation and the votes and groups that back certain offices. We knew from the AGM and the email tampering that this would be an incredibly trying year.

As a club we wanted to continue to be a part of the game we all grew up playing, respecting and loving. The tradition of hockey as a tough honest sport, played by tough and noble men has not been a part of the program in the IIHL these past two years. We have to now take a stand and let the league continue on without us, as we can no longer ignore the frustrations and unbalance the IIHA has created.

Sincerely,

Dublin Rams Ice Hockey Club
